Australian textile artist Orla Cook crafts fine art,
with feeling.
Orla’s work celebrates emotions through colour, shape and texture. Based in Naarm/Melbourne, she achieves a kind of retro-minimalism through thoughtful composition, playing with space, colour and balance.
Her approach to creating art delves into the subtle feelings and sensations of being human, seeking to communicate these experiences through her unique visual language. Bold shapes and colours communicate big feelings of strength, joy, courage and confidence. In contrast, soft curves and warm colour palettes speak of the quiet moments in life, capturing stillness and gentleness, tenderness and connection.
Her art aims to mirror human experience; the complex energy, emotions and sensations that are sometimes hard to describe in words – and in so doing makes the intangible, tangible.
The warmth and irresistibly-touchable texture of fibre art is what draws her to this medium, particularly the way it brings visual warmth to special spaces in the home. Using fibre allows her to create work that is alive with energy and presence; the physical act of creating loop by loop infusing her love of the art form into every piece.
